Event Description

AKWASIDAE USA 2026 | A Once-in-a-Lifetime Royal & Cultural Experience
This Sunday, an extraordinary moment in African and Diaspora history comes to Maryland.
Akwasidae USA 2026 offers a rare opportunity to experience the majesty, pageantry and centuries-old traditions of the Asante Kingdom in the presence of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, the 16th King of the Asante Kingdom.
Guests will witness the grand royal procession and arrival of the Asantehene, magnificent traditional regalia, powerful Asante drumming, traditional dance, cultural displays and ceremonial traditions that have endured for generations—a remarkable opportunity to experience the richness and living heritage of Asanteman firsthand.
But the significance of this occasion reaches far beyond the ceremony itself.
Akwasidae USA also reflects a growing relationship between Prince George’s County and the Asante Kingdom—one rooted in cultural exchange, shared heritage and stronger connections between Africa and its global Diaspora.
Prince George’s County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy is helping lead this historic celebration, with Maryland Governor Wes Moore joining this extraordinary occasion—bringing together the leadership of the Asante Kingdom with senior state and local leadership in Maryland in a powerful demonstration of cultural diplomacy and the deepening ties between Africa and its Diaspora.
With the support and partnership of Prince George’s County, the Embassy of Ghana, the Millennium Excellence Foundation, the Otumfuo Foundation Board USA, and other distinguished institutions, the occasion represents something even greater: culture serving as a bridge for relationships across the Atlantic and creating new possibilities for deeper engagement between Africa and the Diaspora.
More than an event, Akwasidae USA 2026 is a rare encounter with living African history—an opportunity for Africans, the Diaspora and people of all backgrounds to experience the beauty, dignity and cultural richness of Asanteman firsthand while witnessing a historic moment of connection between Africa and its global family.
